Illinois Governor signs law expanding abortion access

DAVENPORT, Iowa - A new abortion rights law is now in effect on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities after it was signed by Governor J. B. Pritzker on Wednesday.

The law says a woman has the right to have an abortion and it allows for the procedure to happen after viability, which is when a fetus could survive outside of the womb.

Under the law, doctors who perform the procedure are not subject to prosecution.

Making reference to other states that have passed recent abortion restrictions, Pritzker said the state of Illinois is going to be different.
